Getting a Placement plays a huge role in one’s career. College Placements are one-time opportunities in a student’s life where companies visit the colleges to hire students – Please Don’t miss this opportunity. Even you are preparing for a Master’s, MBA, or Higher Studies try to attend placements because it is not easy to find an off-campus job if you have changed your mind later. In this article, we will discuss how to prepare for it either Off-Campus or On-Campus Placements keeping freshers in mind.

Aptitude

Prepare Aptitude and Reasoning from Coding Ninjas Aptitude Course or RS Agarwal book which is more than enough to clear the Aptitude / MCQ Round.

Programming

Learn programming in your preferred Language (Java is Preferred by most of the employees). You can take an Udemy course to learn the basics of Java or Python3. While learning programming doesn’t forget to cover the Oops Concepts that are mostly asked in all the technical rounds of the interview.

Once you are good at Programming, start practicing problem solving along with the below sections. Try to solve 5 questions daily from Hacker Rank. It will make you feel confident while doing any kind of problem later. Initially it might take more time for solving the problems but your speed gets increased day by day.

If you are new to programming and feeling discomfort event with the above documentation then you can register for this competitive programming course that helps you improve from zero to a good extinct.

Data Structures and Algorithms

For a fresher, the company evaluates him/her based on his coding and logical ability. They need us to think out-of-the-box and they don’t ask for miracles at the beginning itself. So you need to be strong at Data Structures and Algorithms which play a huge role in the whole interview process.

  • The Codining Ninjas DSA Course helps a lot in understanding DSA in-depth if you code in Java, C++, Python.
  • Most of the companies ask you to know Arrays, Linked List, Stack, Queue, Binary Tree Data Structures. If you want to get into a good MNC then you need to prepare Binary Search Tree, Heap, Hashing, Graph, Matrix, and Misc Data Structures along with them.
  • Most Companies ask for Searching, Sorting, Greedy Algorithms. Prepare for advanced algorithms like Dynamic Programming, Back Tracking etc. These algorithms are asked by the high paid companies.
  • Learn DSA from any of these 2 options:
    • Coding Ninjas Complete DSA Course
      • If you code in Python and are new to Data Structures and coding, then learn PYTHON+DS Course from here
      • Or else if you code in Java and are new to Data Structures and coding, then learn Java+DS Course from here
      • Or else if you code in C++ and are new to Data Structures and coding, then learn Java+DS Course from here
    • Geeks for Geeks Free Web-Material (Self Preparation)
      • If you can self learn and dont need any support the start learning all Data Structures by yourself for free in Geeks for Geeks web material here and skip the first two points
      • If you haven’t registered for the course mentioned in above point then you need to learn algorithms seperately. You can learn Algorithms for free from the Geeks for Geeks web material here.
  • After completing the complete DSA, Evaluate your-self what you have learnt and are you able to solve the problems that are asked in interviews? You will know it by solving the most asked questions in top MNC’s from here

Database Management System (DBMS)

DBMS is mostly asked core subject in Computer Science Engineering. DBMS include SQL/MYSQL Programming through which we can display the data stored in the tables

  • Start Learning any MYSQL Course by which you will get some idea how the database works. MYSQL BootCamp is one of the best course to start with.
  • Once you get idea of how MYSQL works then start practicing the MYSQL Advanced Queries and Joins from Hacker Rank and try to earn a 5 star badge that might help you in building your resume
  • Start learning Database Management Systems like deadlocks, database anomaly, ER Models etc. These concepts are mainly focused during technical rounds. Find all the main DBMS concepts covered in the web-material here

Operating Systems (OS)

OS is the second most asked core subject in Computer Science Engineering. It consists of concepts of computer functioning internally and gives an overview of how the system handles the commands that we give to it.

  • Learn all the OS concepts that consists that contains majority of theory part from Geeks for Geeks
  • Learning Linux Commands will be an additional advantage and some companies prefer having knowledge in this. Start practicing the basic Linux Commands here.

Networks and Communication (Computer Networks)

Computer Networks is a core subject that helps you learn how the data is transferred over the internet and how computers are connected to each other. This is an important subject that you will come across most of the time if you are trying to create any website or hosting application.

  • If you are new to Computer Networks and don’t know then first learn how everything works from Neso Academy. It gives the detailed explanation for beginners
  • Study the advanced concepts of Computer Networks from Geeks for Geeks where you will learn the OSI Architecture and different layers in it.

What to do before few days of the interview?

Revise all the concepts that you have learned from the notes you have made. If you haven’t made a note, find all the important concepts for each subject here

Prepare the repeated Interview questions asked on these concepts

HR Round Questions

  • Prepare for HR Round and be ready to answer these standard questions. Keep at least 3 projects that you have worked on handy and make sure you are able to explain in detail to the recruiter.

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.

For Every recruitment, there is a process in On-Campus/Off-Campus which differs from company to company but every recruiter’s first impression on your education skillset/ Company Suitability will be decided by RESUME. So here comes our article we will discuss how to create a Resume for B.Tech IT, Non-IT branches freshers with required fields which recruiter likes to see in one’s Resume.

For Resume Building there are many resume-making websites like Novo Resume are available which will provide free modern templates. You just have to select your template which has to be simple and professional no extra designs or contrast colors. Now we will focus on the details that you have to mention in your resume.

For freshers, the resume should be completed on a single page and it can be extended to the second page rarely if you have many accomplishments that have to be filled.

About Me/ Objective

Write about your dedication towards your field of interest and your personal character in strong Vocabulary with which how you will be part of the recruiter’s company development. Mention your short-term goals as it matches with company’s job profile.

Social Links

If you are having or maintaining a LinkedIn profile in a professional way add it to your resume. You can create a portfolio website mentioning your skills, this will create a good impression.

Education

We have to fill in our educational details in descending order. So always start with your recent qualification (BTech/MTech). Mention your university/College name with the Start date and end date. You can also add a Description of your qualification experience or What makes you complete this degree with a high CGPA. Then fill in your Intermediate Education Details and SSC details with proper start and end dates.

Skills

Add all the skills which you know or wish to learn before interviewing with a level of your skills (Novice, Beginner, Skillful, Experienced, Expert). I suggest if you are a fresher add skill level in Skillful if you have confidence, you can answer basic questions in Interview. You can always add Skills at the Beginner level too. Add skills that are required in the job profile so the recruiter can shortlist your profile in the recruitment process and also learn Skills thoroughly which you added in the resume Interview questions always comes from skills you added in the resume. “Don’t add Skills Which you Don’t Know”.

It is advisable to change the order of your skills based on the role that you are applying for, in case the recruiter sees only the top 3 skills then you will have a match with his requirement.

  • For IT Placement – Add Programming Languages (Java, C, Python, JavaScript…) and Software’s/Tools (MS Office, Git, Eclipse, Selenium, Tableau…) which you Know/are confident in mentioned Skills.
  • For Non-IT Placement– Add Software (Solid works, Cad /Cam, Ansys, CNC Codes, …) and learn all the tools you mentioned as non-IT tools questions will be wide area questions can be any type.

Projects

Add one custom section Projects which will increase the weight of our resume in the interview. In the project section add mini projects or Final year projects with the utmost technical knowledge so the recruiter should know by reading yes, he knows something and he can do our work by training. This basic impression will make our job confirm we have to just give recruiter assurance that we have capabilities to work in your company.

Projects should not be more than 3 to 4 as it may lead to wide areas and he thinks as he is overqualified for this job so add 2-3 with given job profile area projects. In one project maximum of 3 – 4 lines will be good and easy to read don’t add paragraphs or Abstracts of your projects in this section. It should be short and sweet to the recruiter.

As mentioned earlier if you have done multiple projects change the order of your projects based on the role that you are applying to.

Internships

Almost Everyone will complete at least one internship in their academics so provide it here with a clean and compact manner about what you saw there and learned there or achieved in the Internship. If you any recognition you achieved in an internship you can also add here. It should not be more than 3-4 lines doesn’t look too much to read to the recruiter.

Certifications

In this section Provide your certificates which you accomplished in your academics or out of academics. So, the recruiter should know he is social and learns on his own, and completes certifications. If you have any sports Certificates, you can provide them here which will add your physical fitness score in the placement process.
You can also add extra courses if you completed from Coursera, Udemy, Edutech sites with your score. You can find the suggested courses here.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Add all your activities in your college/University like being an active Club member, NGO, NSS, Event Organizer/Head, etc… If you have any Club Recognition Awards you can add here in this section

Hobbies

Add Hobbies like sports mention which sport and be thorough about sport. A recruiter can ask you regarding sport if he is also in the same sport as you are.  If you mention Reading learn or read some author books don’t say textbooks if the recruiter asks. Most important- Don’t add this section if you don’t have any. (It’s ok to not have hobbies you are still exploring than failing badly in Infront of the recruiter.)

Languages

Add languages from your mother tongue to a foreign language (if you know) with your proficiency in that language. So the recruiter should know he can relocate to any place in India or abroad if work permits.

To crack any interview having a strong grip on Data Structures and Algorithms is a must. The better you get at Algorithms, the more are your chances to get your dream job. There are many ways to learn them, but in this article, I’m going to tell you the most economical way to learn them.

What to expect?

Do not expect me to cover all the resources that help you understand Algos. I am going to stick to the basics. The resource that I will be mentioning will help you to get a theoretical understanding of how Algorithms work.

Resource

The resource that I wanted to share with you is a YouTube channel named “Abdul Bari.” This one channel probably saved lakhs of students to pass and score well in their DS & Algos examinations in college (Surely for me).

abdul bari youtube
Abdul Bari YouTube channel

There are few particular reasons why I chose this channel among many other freely available resources.

  1. He explains everything from basics in simple words. Those who do not have basic knowledge too can understand very easily.
  2. He covers every Algorithm in a theoretical manner for the most part. This helps you understand the fundamental way an Algorithm function.
  3. He connects the dots that will help you understand how the data structures and algorithms work coherently.
  4. Abdul Bari makes use of pseudocodes when necessary in such a way that it won’t overwhelm a beginner.
  5. He starts with explaining the basics of what is what and then solves numerous examples. You will be able to solve them yourself by the time he reaches the final example.
  6. By the end of the Algorithms series in his channel, you will be feeling confident about your understanding of the concept of Algorithms.

What will you learn?

He pretty much teaches everything about Algorithms. He covers every algorithm in detail. To sum it up, this is the list of topics that you will learn

  1. Algorithm Analysis
  2. Time Complexities or Run Time Calculations
  3. Hashing
  4. Graph Algorithms
  5. Algorithm Design Techniques
  6. Divide and Conquer technique
  7. Greedy method
  8. Dynamic Programming method
  9. Backtracking method
  10. Branch and Bound method

Programmable Approach

If you want to take a programming approach for Data Structures and Algorithms, then Abdul Bari offers Udemy course “Mastering Data Structures & Algorithms using C and C++.”

mastering data structures and algorithms

If YouTube gave a theoretical understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms, this Udemy course is going to give a practical understanding of how to implement data structures and algorithms in programming.

In the offer time, you can get this course for roughly 450-500 rupees. It is more than worthy of every penny you invest. So do not hesitate to take this course if you feel the urge to master data structures and algorithms in programming.

This will surely help to crack your interviews. So get ready to dive deep into the world of Data Structures and Algorithms.
