Ageing is normal for everything, mobiles phones are no different. iPhones age well than android devices that’s another topic to discuss. We are using mobiles now more than ever. This whole pandemic thing made everything online and mobile is the go-to device for all tasks. Though new mobile phones are coming with better and efficient processors and specs, after some period the devices feel a bit laggy. It may be while using the device normally or doing heavy tasks, sometimes even hang upon us while doing something important. Here is how you can speed up your android phone a bit fast until you upgrade your device.

person holding white Android smartphone in white shirt

Gist: To speed up your phone check the following things

  1. Backup and free Internal Storage
  2. Clear Cache
  3. Uninstall unnecessary Apps/ Bloatware
  4. Use Developer Options
  5. Factory reset.
  • Check Storage: Well it’s not necessarily true that having a high storage device makes your smartphone faster. But the amount of free storage in your phone does affect the reading and writing speeds. Thus affecting the performance. Also if there is not much space available for maintaining cache then it will be a problem. These days with all the apps taking so much data even texting apps like telegram and WhatsApp. Checking apps data is important and clearing the cache too. Especially on our parents or elders phones who usually don’t know all these. So, it is important to maintain an adequate amount of free storage for better performance. So go to settings or File manager and check the available storage. If it is less than 20% then back up your data to your PC or a hard drive. If you have photos to save, then use services like Google Photos to store them in the cloud for up to 15GB for free.
  • Clear Cache: cache is like temporary storage for apps to store their data so that they don’t have to reload every time you open it. So, if the cache gets fulled or occupies more storage then it will eventually slow down the mobile phone. So regularly check the cache of your applications and delete them if not necessary.
  • Uninstall unnecessary Apps/ Bloatware: Smartphone manufacturers partner up with 3rd party apps and install them with all mobiles. This generally happens in the budget segment. Also, they have their own alternate apps for google apps, like the mails app on Samsung devices. Though we don’t use them, they still occupy some storage. Some apps even run in the background using up all the resources and increasing the load on the processor thus making it slow or hang. So if you find any such apps then it’s better to uninstall them. If uninstall is not available then try to force stop them and revoke all the permissions given to them.
  • Use Developer Options: Every phone has developer options in its settings. But you need to enable it before. Enabling it is simple. You just need to go into Settings–> About phone–> tap multiple time on Build number until it shows developer options is enabled.

Now there are two things you can do in Dev Options to make your phone fast.

I. Reduce animations: scrolling down in developer options you can find the Animations section. There are 3 animations settings that are default set at 1x. Now go ahead and put them either at 0.5x or turn them off completely. Turning off means no animations. This makes it easy for your CPU and GPU.

II. Force GPU rendering: While you are in developer tools, enable Force GPU rendering. This makes use of GPU to render 2D elements that are usually rendered using the software.

  • Factory reset: Last but not least. If your phone is pretty old and struggling to do basic tasks. Then you can try resetting your phone. Factory reset means wiping out all the data on internal storage. That is doing it makes your device feel out of the box with no apps and data. But keep in mind that it’ll erase all data, so be sure to back up all your photos and documents and app data before doing so. Now after doing the reset, as there are not many backgrounds running apps or processes. Now install only necessary apps and make necessary changes in settings and keep an eye on your phone.

These are the things you can try to speed up your phone if you feel your phone is feeling laggy or choppy or even freezing all of a sudden.  Share with your friends who are in dire need to see this!

Are you struggling with slow internet speed on your Android? Here are the few tips to boost up your network speed.

Imagine if your internet connection slows down while watching a movie, or working on something.  This is the biggest problem facing all mobile users and it is really very annoying.  So follow the below tips to avoid this.

Toggle your Data Connection

To increase your internet speed, an easiest way is to toggle your phone’s data connection. By doing so your mobile has a chance to refresh the original data connection.

Then try turning airplane mode on and off, which often solves the data connection problem and gradually increases internet speed.

Restart the phone

Restarting the phone is the simplest way.  When the phone is restarted, the mobile network is searched again, thereby increasing the data speed.

Close background tabs or apps

Even if you don’t use apps all the time, have you ever wondered where your mobile data is going?  Then background tabs or apps is the answer.

If you have 5 apps running in the background, your network bandwidth will expand in these 5 apps.

Even the fastest mobile data connection can’t keep up with most tabs and background apps.  If your internet speed is slow, this may be the reason   So to prevent this, close all the apps when you are not currently using them.

Remove unused apps

Unused apps can also slow down your smartphone by consuming RAM and storage space.  These unused applications slow down the performance of all other apps and your smartphone, even slowing down the internet.  So, it is important to uninstall these unwanted apps from your phone to speed up the internet.

Disable Auto-Download Updates

We often put auto-updates in the Play Store to update all the apps, which consumes most of the data in the background.  So disable auto-updates and use Wi-Fi to update apps.

Clear the Cache

We all know that the browser stores data in the cache to quickly load the websites we visit frequently.  Once cache memory is full, our Android phone will automatically slow down.

So cleaning up Android cache provides a faster mobile experience by speeding up the internet connection.

This is all about how to speed up internet on android!!

Here are a few tips to enhance your device performance.

Clear all cached app data

Many Android apps use stored or cached data to offer you a far better user experience.  Cached data saves some time but files stored in app caches are not necessarily useful.  If you want to quickly clear space on your phone, the first thing you need to look for is App Cache.  To clear the cache in a single tap,

go to Settings> Storage and tap on the cached data to clear the cache of all the apps on your phone.

Delete unwanted apps

On the Apps screen, click on the app you no longer need and uninstall it. To do so, Go to settings>Apps>Uninstall unused apps

After you remove apps that you no longer use, you can immediately see difference in the available space on your device.

Back up to Google Photos

Google Photos allows you to back up an unlimited number of photos. i.e., every photo you take with your Android phone can be backed up directly to Google Photos. Once your photos are protected, you can delete them from your device to release space.

-You have to turn on Google Photos Backup & Sync feature to take advantage of this free cloud storage space.  To do this, open the Google Photos app, go to Settings> Backup & Sync and turn it on.

Move apps to microSD card

Apps will probably take up more storage space on your phone.  If you have an Android phone to add a microSD card for extra storage, you can move some of your storage to that microSD card using apps.  Settings> Apps> Search for Apps> Storage> ‘Change> View Move Note: If this button is not available your phone will not allow apps to be moved to the SD card, or an app will not do this.

Clean up your downloads

Albums that you download can eat a lot of data. There is a downloads folder on your Android phone that stores everything you download – photos, videos, documents and other files.  Most of the files in your downloads folder may not be the files you specifically attached.  So you can free up some storage space by deleting these unnecessary files.

Don’t use any Cleaner Apps

There are many cache cleaner or speed booster apps available in the Play Store. These apps take up more space on your phone, and can even slow down performance by constantly running in the background. Often, they’re full of ads. Avoid using such apps.

Files By Google App

The main interface of this app will show you junk files, duplicate files, large files, unused apps(if you have any).

Using this app, you can clear the space with a few taps.  Delete old photos and memes from chat apps, remove duplicate files, delete unused apps, clear your cache and more.  You will get a prompt to remove junk or temporary files

You can also use to see how much free space is left on your phone

Delete Thumbnails

The thumbnails are basically a replica  of the photos or images on your device.

A thumbnail of every image on device is automatically generated and will be stored in a cache.

In the file explorer, open the DCIM folder, In “DCIM” folder, delete any file or folder with the name .thumbnails. If it doesn’t appear, then enable the “Show hidden files” option in the file browser settings.

Free up space in Android phone

And many folders in your device contains cache in it. Example Whatsapp, it contains database file and other cache storage files. Remove the files starting with dot(.) and files having size of 0 Bytes.

Now you have come to know how to free up space in Android phone.

After this process, your device will work better and thank me later!
