Yesterday Apple unveiled their most anticipated iPhone 13 lineup devices in an online event like last year. Along with a series 7 watch, an unexpected new iPad mini and no Airpods.

Let’s see what changes they brought in new iPhones.

iPhone 13:

Just like last year, iPhone 13 and 13 mini was launched with the same screen size and at the same price. However, there are quite a few changes. These include:

  • A15 Bionic chipset
  • Brighter Super Retina XDR display (800 nits)
  • Redesigned Face ID with a Smaller notch
  • Bigger Battery with Magsafe
  • 5G ready
  • IP 68 Dust and Water-resistant
  • New Ultrawide camera, Sensor shift
  • New camera modes – Cinematic video, 4k 60 HDR, Night mode
  • 128GB base storage and available in 5 Colors ( new Pink colour)

Disappointingly no high refresh rate. iPhone 13 starts at  ₹79,900 and mini from ₹69,900 same prices as last year.

iPhone 13 Pro:

The Pro-line of the devices got few extra upgrades in terms of display and camera. The upgrades include:

  • A15 Bionic chipset
  • Pro Motion Display
  • 1200 nits Peak brightness Super Retina XDR display
  • 120 Hz Refresh rate
  • Redesigned Face ID with a Smaller notch
  • All-new camera system with Bigger main sensor, Ultrawide with Autofocus, and a 3X Optical Telephoto
  • New camera modes: Macro Photography, ProRes Video
  • Bigger Battery with Magsafe
  • 5G ready
  • new Sierra Blue colour
  • 1TB storage option

iPhone 13 Pro starts at  ₹1,19,990 whereas Max model starts at ₹1,29,900 and up to ₹1,79,990 for 1TB variant.

All iPhones come with the new iOS 15 out of the box. As last year there is no adaptor in the box. Pre-order starting at 5:30 PM IST on 17 September. Shipping/ Sales starts from 24 September.

iPad mini:

iPad mini has seen the biggest upgrade overall. With its squared-off edges, it matches with the pro tablets in terms of looks. The display on the front too changed with the new all-screen design. Internally it runs on the same A15 Bionic chip that’s inside new iPhones.

The upgrades include:

  • New all-screen 8.3″ display
  • True tone with 500nits peak brightness
  • A15 Bionic chipset
  • Apple pencil 2nd gen support with magnets for pencil attachment
  • Touch ID integrate in power button
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Type-C port
  • 12MP front and rear cam with Centre Stage
  • Available in 4 colors.

The iPad mini is priced at ₹46,900 for Wi-Fi only model and ₹60,900 for Wi-Fi + Cellular one. Comes with a 20W adapter in the box.

iPad:

Alongside Apple also announced the iPad (10.1″). With minor upgrades at the same price. These include:

  • A13 Bionic chipset
  • 12MP camera with Centre Stage
  • Base storage of 64GB

Apart from this no major upgrades. iPad is the entry tab offering from Apple and is the best one to get at that price. Starts at ₹ 30,900 for Wi-Fi only model.

Series 7 Watch:

The square off design that leaked ahead of the Apple event stayed as rumour as the new series 7 is as round as ever. Tried and tested comfortable design. The huge upgrade for the watch this year would be the display going all the way to the edges. Making it almost bezel-less.

Upgrades include:

  • Bezel-less display upfront
  • Fast charging
  • IP 6X dust and WR50 water resistant
  • Full QWERTY keypad
  • Fall detection durig
  • Available in Titanium, Stainless steel, Alluminium

Apple watch series 7 will be coming to India later this year. Availability and pricing are yet to be announced.

So, two days back Realme did an online event where they launched two new additions to the Realme 8 line-up and some audio products and their first-ever Tablet. You can read my impressions on Realme 8s and 8i on the website, this article is all about Realme Pad.

Realme Pad

The tablet market in India or in general is a one-side game for Apple, no other tablet even comes to close with the iPads. Be it accessories, or updates, or the performance and the whole ecosystem built around, the tight integration with other Apple products. But they are quite expensive. The cheapest iPad you can buy now is for 30,000 INR and if you want a cellular model then the price would go up to 40,000. That’s way out of budget for many, who want to buy it for media or entertainment purposes or for their kids’ online classes. In my opinion, the iPad is overkill for watching Netflix.

Apart from Apple, the Tablet market is dominated by Samsung which makes decent high-end tablets but really horrible budget ones. Like their budget A7 and A7 lite. I am not saying they are bad. Just that if anyone wants to do anything other than basic tasks like reading or trying multitasking, they have a hard time completing it. They don’t have powerful chipsets for power-intensive tasks. The Tab S6 lite that sells for 36,000 is being powered by Exynos 9611.

There are some Lenovo tablets but it’s better not to talk about them. I think there is huge potential for good budget tablets in India. Due to online classes and the whole lockdown thing, last year would be perfect, but no one launched. I really hoped for Realme to launch this earlier. But better late than never. Let’s talk about Realme Pad now!!

Realme Pad:

Build & Camera:

Realme Pad comes with a unibody aluminium build. Weighs 440gms and is around 7mm thick. The squared up edges give it an industrial yet minimal look and the slim profile make it easy to hold. It has two 8MP cameras, one on the front and one on the back. Should do the job for all those video calls and casual photos. It also has Quad speakers and supports Dolby Atmos for better audio quality and comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Realme Pad comes with Dolby and Hi-Res Audio

Display & Battery:

Realme Pad comes with a 10.4-inch IPS LCD WUXGA+ display, which means it’s going to have a slightly higher resolution than Full HD, this one comes with 2000*1200 resolution and covers an 82.5% screen to body ratio. It comes with a 7100 mAh battery inside and supports 18W charging and also supports reverse charging, if you want to charge other devices on the go.

Performance & Software:

Under the hood is the Mediatek G80 processor. Not the latest and greatest but gets the job done. G80 is a fairly powerful processor that can do the day to day tasks with ease and is even capable of doing some gaming. On the software, the side comes with Realme UI tweaked for tablets based on Android 11. It comes in two configurations 3GB and 4GB RAM. Though all the tablets come with the same amount of RAM, I wonder how they will handle, Android will at least need 4GB ram for smooth usage and more if we want to do multitasking or playing games.

Price & Availability:

There are total 3 variants, the basic one 3+32 Wi-Fi for 14,000 and 3+32 cellular for 16,000 and 4+64 Cellular for 18,000 INR. The close competitor would be Samsung Tab A7 with 3+32 costing 18000. But that one comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor which is not as powerful as G80.  The first sale will be on 16th September and buyers can avail of a discount of up to 2000 using bank cards.

Thoughts:

Realme Pad seems to be targeting students and casual users and Realme Pad is a good start for the company. I think Realme will launch some other tablets too for power users with better specs. We would really like to see some improvements like providing with more powerful chipset and a better AMOLED panel would be great.

Realme has finally made some momentum in the tablet market with this. Now now we can expect tabs from other companies too.

For anyone who wants a budget Tab for casual use like for entertainment or for attending online classes, Realme Pad would be a great choice considering its price.

Tuesday at 12:30 pm Realme launched another two devices in their number series lineup, 8i and 8s 5G. Along came the long-awaited Realme Pad. Let’s see what Realme has to offer for this festive season.

Realme 8s 5G:

Second 5G phone after Relame 8 5G in Realme 8 series. It is more of a successor to 8 5G.  Launching at 18,000 that is 2500 more for the base model, 8s packs upgraded specs.

Comes with a new Dimensity 810 5G processor, and 64MP main sensor, 6GB ram for the base model with support for Dynamic RAM Expansion, support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and a 3.5mm headphone jack, UFS 2.1 storage and 33W fast charging support. If I say anything new that will be the new 810 5G processor that brings some punch to the segment. Everything else is made up to call it a phone, like those two 2MP cameras in the back and 90Hz LAC panel, while the budget 8i comes with a 120Hz display.

Realme 8s

Realme 8i:

8i is a kind of mixed update to the 7i launched before. The upgrades include a better processor G96 over SD 662 in 7i and a Full HD LCD screen with 120Hz, adaptive display, i.e. it can change its refresh rate depending upon the activity, compared to last year’s 90Hz 720p display on 7i.

Then there is the camera, last year the 7i came with a 64MP camera coupled with an 8MP Ultrawide angle sensor and two other useless sensors, this 8i comes with a 50MP main sensor with two other useless sensors ditching Ultrawide. But why?

Coming at 14,000 for the base model and another one for 16,000.

Availability:

8s first sale will be on 13th September whereas 8i will come on 14th September. As an introductory offer Realme is offering a discount of 1500 and 1000 for 8s and 8i respectively by using either ICICI or HDFC bank credit or debit cards. There is also Flipkart smart upgrade option for 8s.

Thoughts:

I get it, releasing new phones keeps the brand publicity in the media and brands do want people to talk about them, but how many. Including these two, Realme has launched 5 devices in 8 series and none of them is perfect. Instead of launching these many, they should really be releasing less and must focus on after support and optimising the devices further with proper updates.

Coming to the camera, why they are skipping on Ultra wide-angle lens, and why does anyone need 2MP macro and depth sensors. They are useless and what’s with the fourth cutout on the back saying AI, total marketing gimmicks. Making users believe that it has 4 cameras and even fooling.

Then there is the display. Initially, Realme launched the 8 and 8 Pro though they were 60 Hz with AMOLED panels. They were good. In my personal opinion, I’d pick 60Hz AMOLED over 120Hz LCD any day, because no matter how good an LCD panel is, it cannot beat AMOLED in terms of viewing and those deep blacks. Really wish Realme had brought an AMOLED panel in this series.

IMO Realme is launching too many devices to keep track and it’s making more confusion for end buyers like come on Realme 8, 8Pro, 8 5G, 8s, 8i and there is Narzo series all in the 15k to 20k segment. And there is no one all-around device to recommend all. Also, the pricing has gone up a bit, more about it.

Coming to end, Realme Pad is launched at 14,000 for the base model and more about that in the link below! Stay tuned!

Tuesday Apple sent press invites for their yearly new iPhone launch event. So, here is a detailed article rounding up all the iPhone 13 big leaks ahead of launch so far. Also everything we can expect on September 14, the day for the latest iPhone 13 and probably along with some other stuff.

The live event will be streaming from Apple Park on September 14th. Same as last year there will be 4 models in this year’s line up too. Two regular-sized iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, small iPhone 13 Mini, and a plus-size iPhone 13 Pro max. Complementing with iOS 15 in all its glory and iPhone 13 specific functions. Alongside the Apple watch next version Watch 7 too will be introduced. Some rumours say that refreshed Air pods 3 will be launching. The new Air pods will be matching the Air pods Pro look with some tweaking.

Now coming to iPhone 13. This year there are some pretty upgrades from 12 and let’s talk about them in detail.

Design

Design-wise there are no major changes this year, as with iPhone 12 series they did big changes with squared up edges going with the retro iPhone 4 look, Apple is Apple and Apple doesn’t like change. So, this year we are not expecting any major design chnages. The only visual change we can observe is in the Camera setup in iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, where the sensors are placed diagonally unlike last year.

iPhone 13 Render (Image credit: Ian Zelbo / Twitter)

There is one more thing that we can notice. It will be the notch that was introduced with the good old iPhone X. The new notch will occupy less area than the previous one. Face recognition will be improved too. But in my opinion, it will be so nice to ditch the Face ID and re-introduce Touch ID integrated into the power button just like they did in iPad Air.

Display

This year there is a major upgrade for display, Apple finally moving into high refresh rate AMOLED displays. As per rumours, Apple is finally introducing a 120Hz High refresh rate display in the new iPhone. It is an LTPO panel built by Samsung and LG. An LTPO panel is one in which the refresh rate is dynamically adjusted. That means if you are watching a movie, then the refresh rate is set to 30hz as it doesn’t need more. When we are playing a game or scrolling the refresh rate is automatic goes up to 120hz. When we are on the home screen the refresh rate will be set low. This helps in better battery life and reduces battery consumption by up to 20%. And coming to the battery

Battery

There are rumours that Apple finally increasing the battery capacity of the iPhone. The iPhones generally don’t need a bigger battery as they are well optimized and quiet battery efficient. But with the introduction of 5G modems and bright OLED panels, battery consumption has increased. Now with the introduction of high refresh panels battery is going to drain more. There is only a little we can optimize and finally, Apple decided to increase the capacity of the iPhones by 10 to 15% or even more and this is good.

The increase in battery capacities means the new iPhones will be thicker and heavier than the previous ones.

Camera

Last year we have seen a new main sensor in 12 Pro Max. From rumours, we are expecting some in-camera department this year too. Apple might be introducing Astrophotography, which Google has introduced and perfected way back. Along with this a new Ultra-wide camera will be having Auto-Focus to help with well better focus and for macro. Also, this year they’re going to increase the aperture, in short, larger the aperture more light will be allowed inside and more bright pictures it can take in the dark, and of course, the Pro models will be coming with LiDAR sensor as previous models.

Internals

Apple will not back down in performance, as iPhone is long supported by Apple the chip inside should be powerful enough for all the updates and time, to give perspective iPhone 6s will be receiving an iOS 15 update, a phone that launched in 2015. That is 6 years of updates. So, the SoC is very important for long-term use. This year the Apple Silicon A15 bionic sure going to top all the benchmarks as usual and going to beat all the chips in the market.  A15 is rumoured to be based on 4nm fin fit technology, making it power efficient and fast, while the A14 in iPhone 12 lineup is based on 5nm technology.

This year SoC is expected to come with an X60 modem, for better signal reception and better 5G coverage in both mm-Wave and Sub 5G bands.

This X60 modem can do satellite communication that is even without 4G or 5G coverage, users can make calls and SMS.

Others

This year new iPhones are expected to launch in a bunch of colours, based on renders the new iPhones are coming in matte black, and a new bronze or orange colour, or even Pink.

iPhone 13 to be supporting 25W charging, whereas the previous iPhone 12 capped at 20W. Last but not least, will it be called iPhone 13 or 12S or Apple skip 13 and call it 14. Let’s see. Also, all these changes might come with a price hike too.

Conclusion

Finally, these are the rumors that have surrounded the upcoming iPhone 13 line-up of devices collected from various sources. This is everything we can expect. As these are rumors, we cannot be sure until Apple unveils it on their Online Event scheduled on September 14. So, hang on a couple of days more.

Oppo in a Weibo post has announced that they are going to release ColorOS 12, the next version of ColorOS. It will be based on Android 12. This will be released later this month, indicating that a stable version of Android 12 will be released by Google soon.

Previously Oppo’s personal assistant revealed that ColorOS 12 is going to be launched on September 13, in a post shared by a user on Weibo. But today’s announcement made it clear that it would be delayed to later this month.

Unfortunately, there is no official timeline for when the updates will be rolled out and which devices to get it. Alongside they also share a video of the new UI, based on geometry indicating the refreshed colorful UI.

Oppo ColorOS

We can also expect Realme to release their next version of Realme UI, which usually is based on ColorOS. But I highly doubt they come any quicker for Indian devices. Also it takes quite a time for all devices to receive the update.

This also confirms the rumors about the Pixel 6 launch by Google with the stable Android 12, just a day before the iPhone 13 launch by Apple.

Redmi 10 Prime was launched in India yesterday. Last year Redmi 9 Prime was an instant hit, launching at just 10000, It was almost the same price as the previous 8 Prime, it’s a better package in every spec.

Redmi unveiled their next iteration of Prime the Redmi 10 Prime, saying it’s the “All-round Superstar”, but is it? Let’s discuss!

Redmi 10 Prime

Pricing

Redmi priced 10 Prime at 12,500 making it 2,000 more than the previous 9 Prime. Though 9 Prime launched at 10,000, its price was hiked by 500 recently due to chip shortage. The base model and the other model with 6GB ram is priced at 14,500/-

Redmi 10 Prime

Specifications

Redmi has once again refreshed the whole mobile and upgraded it to the next nearest spec.

The processor is changed from G80 to G88, likely the display was upgraded to 90Hz Dynamic still LCD from 60Hz panel. The Main camera sensor is upgraded to a new 50MP f 1.8 from a 13MP sensor in 9 Prime. It couples with 8MP ultra-wide and 2 other useless sensors and battery to 6000mAh from 5020mAh.

Design is also changed to look more like its elder siblings Note 10 family. It now even has stereo speakers. It supports 18W fast charging and also supports 9W reverse charging. Still retains an IR blaster.

Looks like a true upgrade and a complete package for customers.

My Opinion:

Prime line of devices are usually for people looking at the 10,000 mark and in that price, even a 500 hike is tough for some people. Maybe it is indeed because of lockdown and chip shortages but I think this mobile is made of wrong choices. They might have cut some corners and make it available let’s say under 12000 so that using card offers we can get it for a lower price. It’d be a sweet spot.

Considering the same company that launched Redmi Note 10 at 12,000 a couple of months back now increased to 13,500, that is more bang for the buck.

But coming into the perspective of the general public, this mobile Redmi 10 Prime is indeed a good one considering the price hike, it is a good choice for people who want to buy a decent mobile at 12,000 price.

But the same can’t be said to the other model priced at 14,500 because the company’s own Redmi Note 10S makes more sense. Available for 500 more at 15,000 and comes with a better processor G95 and a super AMOLED display (60Hz AMOLED panel is much better than 90Hz LCD) and a 33W fast charging. Both launched with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.

You can purchase the mobile here.

Again these are my thoughts, comment down yours.

Thank you!

Recently, smartphone companies are increasing the price of many of their devices silently and all of them are budget and mid-range devices. What is the reason for smartphones price hike? Let’s talk about it.

Before getting into it, take a look at some of the price hikes in recent times.

Realme 8

Realme 8 is one of the best-selling phones for Realme this year. Launched at 15,000 and the specifications for the price are good too making it an easy recommendation for most. After few days Realme actually cut down its price by 500 thus made it available at 14,500.

But today when if we try to buy one the price is 16,000 that is 1500 more. Not only Realme 8 but many other Realme devices prices are hiked. These include models like Realme 8 5G (1500 hiked), Realme C11, Realme C21.

Flipkart Realme

On the other hand, Yesterday Redmi silently has announced that they too are increasing the prices of some of their smartphones by 500-1000.

Below is the list of new prices for hiked mobiles. Apart from the below Redmi Note 10 that was originally launched for 12,000 now increased to 14,00 for some time.

Models after price hike

Some of the budget mobiles whose price has been increased are listed below:

Smartphones price hike

Micromax In Note 1 and In 2B by 500, Poco M3 and M3 Pro up to 1000 depending upon the variant. Similarly, Oppo has increased the price on some of its models, these include Oppo F19, A53s, A15s, A15, and A11K up to 1000.

Reason

Now to our initial question of why smartphone manufacturers are increasing the prices of their mobiles lately.  In recent times if there is any reason that everyone can understand is covid-19. It disrupted many things making it more difficult for several industries, Mobile manufacturers are no different.

On the official confirmations from the OEMs, they said that the supply chain has been disrupted. This is forcing them to increase the price of the mobiles to cover the higher input cost and the fluctuation in demand.

Though the price hike seems ok in some cases as the prices of raw materials and components have increased in the pandemic. Especially the rising fuel prices making it more costly for transportation. But increasing 2000rs in a budget smartphone is making it to reconsider to recommend, putting them in a different category.

Like in the case of the Redmi Note 10 when launched at 12000, it is the go-to recommendation for many. But now at 14,000, it is not much of a value for money mobile. Because there are better alternatives from the same brand at just 1000 more.

Opinion

My opinion on this issue is, yes it is true the price hiked mobiles are VFM(value for money) mobiles. Companies get very little by selling them, unlike their mid-range and premium devices which usually sell at a profit, thus have a buffer for companies to adjust the factors that make the price hike. So companies are kind of forced to increase the price to compensate.

Increasing 500 seems to be reasonable, but 1500 and 2000 are not something companies should do. Also, the companies should be more transparent about it and more open to the people, why they are doing it.

It is also expected that companies are going to increase the prices of their TV line up by 3-6%, because of the same. Anyway thanks to online shopping sites we can easily get a discount on these via card offers and sales they keep.

So we should expect the prices of mobiles to go up a little bit in the future too and let’s hope the companies will be more open and transparent about the surge in charges.

Comment down your thoughts in the comment section about the topic.

Thank you!

Things no one tells you

  1. Features look quite impressive at that price however we still need to wait and lookout for the build quality
  2. The Model shown on launch period was not the final one, there are few changes which need to be done.
  3. SIMPLE ENERGY is still a startup company which is looking for investors. Deliveries take time if they haven’t found good investors.
  4. One simple difference between OLA and SIMPLE ENERGY is that OLA is a decision maker, they have everything and promised to start deliveries by October, whereas SIMPLE ENERGY is a decision taker.
  5. Assured range always differs from real range and most importantly, the more speed you go, the range reduces by that amount.
